Big bridge moving forward

Big bridge moving forward

Last Wednesday, May 10, a group of interested members of the public had the opportunity to view the Snowy River Railway Bridge restoration plans in the meeting room at the rear of the Shire Business Centre in Orbost.
The drop-in style session allowed a significant number of people to come along and get an update on this important local project.
Locals were delighted to be able to see the plans which show the 770m section (Newmerella side of the Snowy River Flats to Burn Road) being redeveloped as well as the access points and car parking and share in stories of times gone by relating to the bridge.
People were pleased to hear that of the large timbers used, any that could be reused would be and any additional sections needed to be replaced will come from certified sources for use.
Community members took the opportunity to talk with the project manager and local members of the Save the Snowy Rail Bridge committee about the project and the steps that had been taken and what was ahead with the restoration works looking to commence later in 2023 (subject to contractor availability) and after a successful tender is let from mid June.
