Jarrahmond discovery one in a 100

Jarrahmond discovery one in a 100

The first observation of a species in more than 100 years was taken by a Landcare member in Jarrahmond recently.
Citizen science is becoming a critical component of understanding the complex and changing environment and this month a member of Jarrahmond Landcare Group took a photo of a beetle and shared it on an app called INaturalist, only to confirm  this species has only been recorded twice before in history and not for more than 100 years.
This is his account:
"We are always thrilled to make observations, here in the Jarrahmond LACANASTAR, of things that are unusual and little recorded on iNaturalist and we have so far made half a dozen observations of living things which have five or less records in iNaturalist globally to date.
"Possibly the most notable observation currently is one of a longhorn beetle, namely Pempsamacra condita, the species identity of which has been confirmed by two experts in Cerambycidae (longhorn beetles).
