Fires under investigation

Two grass and scrub fires along the Marlo Road, one burning early Sunday afternoon and a second in the early hours of Monday morning, are currently under investigation, with firefighters brought in from four local brigades to tackle the blazes.

Orbost Fire Brigade captain, Dick Johnson, said the call came at around 1.30pm on Sunday of a fire about 5-800 metres from the Snowy River Bridge, on the river side.

Mr Johnson said six appliances took about an hour and a half to contain the first fire with trucks from Orbost, Marlo, Newmerella and Wairewa brigades in attendance.

Then at around 4.30am on Monday two Orbost appliances attended another fire, within five-10 metres of the first. Mr Johnson said it was quickly contained and was not sparked by the original fire.
