Hobies back at Marlo

Hobies back at Marlo

The coastal hamlet of Marlo came alive on the weekend, with the Hobie Fishing Series 14 in town for two action packed days of fishing, with Rosedale’s Tony Pettie taking out the first round of the classic.
More than 100 competitive angling enthusiasts took to water in kayak fishing tournament, with fishing allowed between the times of 7am and 2pm.
Unfortunately, mother nature played her part and caused a variance, Saturday began with a sea mist which finally cleared to reveal a real mixed day of wind, sun, clouds and more mist, all depending where the anglers were located in the system.
Due to potential hazardous winds, the weigh-in was pulled forward to 11am on Sunday morning, the shorter session placing extra pressures on the anglers, particularly the day one leaders.
Pettie narrowly took out the number one position, with a sensational five fish catch weighing in at 5.19 kilograms (kg), ahead of longtime Hobie tournament angler Dave Hedge (5.15kg) and New South Wales fisherman, James Kilpatrick (4.82kg).
