Gauge Track gets go-ahead

East Gippsland Shire Council has voted to go ahead with a planning application for the Gauge Track waste transfer station on Tamboon Road, Cann River, despite protests from locals.
The vote was not unanimous, with councillors John White and Sonia Buckley siding with the angered locals at last Tuesday’s council meeting.
With the planning application now approved, council is another step closer to developing the controversial waste transfer station.
Leonie Cameron, from the Cann Valley District Representative Group (CVDRG), said the Cann River community’s pleas for an alternate site were not listened to.
“This waste management facility has just been like a bombshell, it’s been like a blanket dampening our community’s enthusiasm,” Ms Cameron said at the meeting.
