Rally returns in December

East Gippsland will come alive with excitement and the sound of revving engines when the Lock and Load Transport Alpine Rally finally returns on December 1 this year.
The Alpine Rally was first run by the RACV in 1921, and is Australia’s oldest motorsport event, and the second oldest car rally in the world, behind the famous Monte Carlo Rally.
After the many months of pre-planning in 2021, and then having to make the heart-breaking decision to cancel the race due to COVID-19, the Alpine rally organising team will finally get to celebrate their iconic 100-year anniversary race, a year later than was first scheduled.
“Historic rallying is the most popular form of the sport in the world at the moment and Australia is no different,” event director, Owen Polanski, said.
He further explained all cars must be more than 30 years old, non-turbo charged and two-wheel drive only.
This is in keeping with the Alpines of old when the race was a true test of man and machines, rather than current modern technology.
