Project moving forward

The Future of Orbost and District Project is continuing to work on developing innovation opportunities for the region with the National Seeds Institute and Forest Management Innovation Working Groups meeting in Orbost during June, July and August.
The National Seeds Institute innovation working group met at the Orbost Club on Wednesday, June 22 with a diverse group of stakeholders starting to build the evidence base necessary to find a sustainable, competitive advantage in corn seed collaboration across the Orbost district.
Project manager, Tim Cotter, along with new project administrator, Michelle Perry, will be hosting the seeds group again in Orbost on Tuesday, July 19, and Tuesday, August 9.
“The seeds innovation working group participants supported the proposition that a seeds institute could have a viable, significant contribution to the future of Orbost,” Mr Cotter said.
“They confirmed the view the district has two businesses, Snowy River Seeds and Gippsland Seed Services with significant expertise in seed breeding and seed production for the maize, sweet corn and popcorn sectors.
