Nine students from East Gippsland, including three from Orbost, are gearing up to take on the Kokoda Trail as part of the Arthur Grassby Kokoda Scholarship.
Orbost Secondary College students Heidi Lawrence, Oscar Millward and Campbell Macalister are part of the group trekking the 96km track.
The group features winners from both this year’s and last year’s scholarship, after COVID-19 caused the trek to be cancelled.
The students have been training over the past seven weeks to complete the tough eight-day walk.
In 2021, scholarship winners were instead taken to Darwin for a tour, where they learnt about the bombing raids which hit the area in 1942.
