More than two years after the iconic East Cape Conran  boardwalk was damaged in the Black Summer Bushfires, work has finally begun to rebuild one of the area’s most well-known structures.
After the fires tore through the Marlo area in early 2020, parts of the near 30-year-old boardwalk were left either severely damaged or destroyed entirely. It has been closed ever since.
Various bushfire recovery projects have been slammed by locals and politicians alike due to a slow response and lack of information regarding time frames.
The boardwalk was originally expected to be completed by Christmas 2020, but when Gippsland East MP, Tim Bull, queried about the project a month prior, it had not been started.
Mr Bull has been advocating for a faster response to bushfire recovery projects and while the rebuild is a positive step towards rehabilitating the area, other projects may take more years to be completed.
