The Orbost Agricultural Show is still being planned to go ahead on Monday, March 8, at the Newmerella Recreation Reserve, pending COVID-19 restrictions.
Although the schedule will look quite different due to the pandemic, it is still set to be the wonderful community event that it is, made safe by the introduction of hand sanitiser stations placed around the site in accordance with the organising committee’s COVID- safe plan.
The Orbost Agricultural Show was a major success last year, sneaking in prior to COVID rearing its head and acting as a positive community gathering following the bushfires.
Gate entry will again be covered thanks to a generous donation from Connect Well Wellington and East Gippsland and the Orbost and District Community Recovery and Transition Committee.
“Perhaps the biggest changes to the day has been that the only horse events that will run are the showjumping and harness classes. “All other riding classes will be run the following weekend, the Autumn Horse Show on March 13 and 14,” show president, Paul Lavell, said.
“All the main attractions such as the poultry, goats, cattle and the woodchop will all run as usual with the expectation of the pavilion to be bursting at the seams with the vegetable and flower offerings intended to be up given the great growing season that has been had.
“Showboy/girl will be held out the front of the pavilion and all entries will need to be made at the secretary’s office.”
The usual trade space and sideshows will also be in attendance and anyone wishing to book a space to hold a stall is invited to contact Mr Lavell.
Parking this year will be made available on the showgrounds and all attending the show will need to go through the front gate checkpoint.
