Orbost Snowy’s under 14 and under 12 sides have advanced to the Bairnsdale District junior football grand final following wins on Sunday at Bairnsdale City Oval.

The Blues’ under 14 team cruised to a 27- point win over Lakes Maroon, while the under 12s got the job done over Wy Yung by 43 points and will now have a week off before the grand final on Sunday, August 26.

Both teams secured the double chance after spectacular seasons, but only needed one game to book a spot in the decider. The under 14s will face the winner of the preliminary final between the Seagulls and Lindenow, while the under 12s will clash with either the Tigers or Lucknow.

Orbost Snowy’s under 14s shot out of the gate as the Seagulls were unable to find an answer and after kicking 2.4 to one behind, the Blues led by 16 points at the first break.

While Orbost Snowy was again dominant in the second quarter, it was unable to make the most of its chances in front of goal, kicking four behinds for the term.

Despite this the Blues held the Seagulls to one behind and were 19 points up at half time.

Lakes Maroon managed to kick its first goal of the game after the main break, but Orbost Snowy replied with a goal of its own. The Blues led by 22 points with one term to go.

In the fourth quarter both teams kicked two goals, but it was Orbost Snowy who looked more threating as it recorded seven scoring shots to two and secured the win.

Cooper Vickery booted three of Orbost Snowy’ s five goals, while Jammo Humphreys and Meg Herbert both kicked singles. Will Herbert was also key alongside Bo Milliken.

Wy Yung had no answers for the Blues in under 12s as the latter led at each change.

The Tigers managed one goal in the opening term, which was their only major for the day, but Orbost Snowy was up to the challenge, kicking 2.3 to lead by nine points at quarter time.

It was one-way traffic after the first stanza as the Blues took control.

Orbost Snowy kicked two goals in the second term, one in the third and two more in the fourth as Wy Yung could only muster two behinds in the same time period.

Toby Herbert and Blake Robinson both finished with two goals, while Angus Davis, Noah Christy (pictured), Toby Herbert, Oliver Young and Tyson Bills were influential.
