Orbost Snowy Rovers Football Netball Club has reason to smile.

The Blues have booked themselves an East Gippsland Football Netball League grand final position in the “A” grade and 17 and under netball following second semi final wins over Stratford and Wy Yung respectively last Saturday at Bairnsdale City Oval.

Orbost Snowy president, Royston Nettleton, says it’s good to see the netballers leading the way.

“We’ve brought in a couple of new girls into the area and they’ve trained hard throughout the season,” he said.

“We’ve got a good connection between the footballers and netballers at our club and all netball grades are full, which is pleasing.

“In our junior grades we had squads of 12 to 13, which means that there’s pressure to train and perform.

“This has filtered up to our senior netballers.

“Unfortunately “C” and “D” grade fell away towards the end of the season but they’ve been really competitive.

“The “B” graders made it to finals, which is a great effort because our “B” grade is full of a lot of younger girls who are still developing.”

Nettleton said the growth in the netballers has been exceptional.

“We are all supportive of each other and it’s great to see that we’ve got some good talent both on the footy field and on the netball court because we won two out of the three league best and fairests in the footy and we also won the 15 and under and 17 and under best and fairests as well,” he said.

“We also had a runner-up in the “D” grade netball. We’ve got a good spread of talent.”

Nettleton says it’s great to see opportunity to bring the club some glory.

“Everybody loves seeing the younger players playing really good sport, whether it’s football or netball,” he said.

“Everybody talks about the youth that’s coming through the respective sides and it puts a good vibe around, not only the club, but the town as well.

“The club is a big part of the local community and that doesn’t matter whatever community it is, it’s just great to see the younger ones having a go.”
